Eclipse Wellness Center – Neuromuscular Massage Therapy

A better, smarter massage.

Neuromuscular Massage Therapy (NMT) enhances the function of joints, muscles and the general function of the body. It can improve healing by facilitating the return of appropriate core (lumbo-pelvic-hip) muscle function throughout the entire kinetic chain.

Special focus is given to the treatment of trigger points, local ischemia, neural interferences, postural dysfunctions, biomechanical dysfunctions and emotional well-being.

NMT encompasses a group of Neuromuscular Massage techniques, such as trigger point therapy, myofascial release, acupressure and other soft tissue modalities. Utilizing a comprehensive system of non-invasive, soft-tissue manipulation techniques, it proves valuable both as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool.

Although NMT was developed in the 1930s, it’s recently become more and more popular. In the year 2000, John Sharkey made history by becoming the first Neuromuscular Therapist on the Olympic Medical Team. Today, you’ll see NMT at multidisciplinary clinics or used by various medically trained professionals, such as doctors and orthopedic specialists.

All Neuromuscular Massage Therapists are trained to follow strict national standards and guidelines, including a code of ethical conduct and scope of practice regulations.

While performing NMT, a therapist gathers information regarding tissue tone, fibrosity, and edema. The therapist also deciphers areas of soft tissue changes such as hypersensitivity, change in sensation, or pain. While working with a client, these issues are painlessly investigated and treated.
