THE GYROTONIC® METHOD.
Three-Dimensional Movement for Total Spinal Freedom.
Where Pilates works in linear planes, GYROTONIC® moves through spirals, undulations, and circular pathways to unlock mobility your body didn't know it had.
WHAT IS THE GYROTONIC® EXPANSION SYSTEM?
The GYROTONIC® Expansion System is a movement method created by Juliu Horvath — a Romanian-born gymnast, swimmer, and ballet dancer who developed the system after suffering a debilitating Achilles injury that ended his professional dance career. Over years of self-rehabilitation, he created a system of movements that addressed what conventional exercise could not: three-dimensional, spiraling motion through the body's natural planes of movement.
The method uses a specialized piece of equipment called the Pulley Tower Combination Unit, which features curved, rotating handles and weighted pulleys. The pulleys create both resistance and traction simultaneously, supporting movement through full range while building strength. Unlike machines that fix you in a single plane and restrict motion, the GYROTONIC® equipment guides your body through arcs, circles, and undulations — the same movements that healthy spines and joints make naturally.
GYROTONIC® is used by professional dancers, elite athletes, physical therapists, and anyone seeking to restore mobility that conventional training methods cannot reach.
WHAT A SESSION LOOKS LIKE.
You begin seated or standing at the Pulley Tower, with your hands on the curved, rotating handles. Your instructor guides you through sequences that move the spine through flexion, extension, lateral bending, and rotation — not in isolation, but in fluid combination. The movements are rhythmic and breath-coordinated; the breath is not an afterthought but the driver of the sequence.
The weighted pulleys provide support during the movement so you are never forced into end-range positions. You can move further than you expect because the equipment is helping you, not resisting you. This is a key distinction: GYROTONIC® is not about overcoming resistance — it's about moving freely through space with support.
Sessions progress systematically. Early sessions focus on establishing the basic spinal movement patterns and coordination with breath. As your instructor becomes familiar with your range of motion and movement habits, the sequences become more complex and individualized. Each session builds directly on the last.
YOUR INSTRUCTOR.
GYROTONIC® sessions at Eclipse Wellness are led by Paulina Vazquez, a Level II certified GYROTONIC® Trainer and MERRITHEW™ Lead Instructor Trainer — a distinction that means she is certified not just to teach students, but to certify other instructors. She has trained movement professionals in over 10 countries across North America, South America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Australia.
Paulina holds a degree in Dance Kinesiology from the National Dance School of Mexico and completed her STOTT PILATES® certification at the International Certification Center in Toronto, Canada. She was the Technical Director of the STOTT PILATES® Licensed Training Center in Mexico City before relocating to Houston.
Teaching someone to instruct a method requires a fundamentally different level of understanding than teaching the method itself. Paulina's expertise means your sessions are informed by the same knowledge she uses when training other professionals — applied directly to your body and your specific movement patterns.

WHO BENEFITS FROM GYROTONIC®.
The method is particularly effective for:
GYROTONIC® VS. GYROKINESIS®.
Juliu Horvath developed two related but distinct disciplines. GYROTONIC® uses the Pulley Tower equipment and is always a private, individual session. GYROKINESIS® is the mat-and-chair version — no equipment, similar movement principles, practiced on a low bench or mat. GYROKINESIS® is often taught in small groups and is accessible to people who are not yet ready for equipment work.
At Eclipse Wellness, we offer GYROTONIC® on the Pulley Tower. The equipment work allows for a higher degree of individualization and support, making it particularly valuable for post-rehabilitation and clients with significant mobility restrictions. Your instructor can recommend which format is appropriate based on your starting point.
GYROTONIC® & PILATES: COMPLEMENTARY METHODS.
Many clients at Eclipse Wellness combine STOTT Pilates® with GYROTONIC® sessions. The two methods address different aspects of movement quality. Pilates builds core stability, alignment awareness, and controlled strength through linear planes. GYROTONIC® adds fluid, three-dimensional mobility and joint freedom. Together, they create a comprehensive movement practice.
The combination is especially effective post-rehabilitation — Pilates to rebuild structural stability, GYROTONIC® to restore the range of motion that compensation patterns and disuse have taken away. Your instructor designs a combined program based on your goals, whether that is recovering from injury, improving athletic performance, or addressing chronic stiffness.

COMMON QUESTIONS.
What is GYROTONIC® and how is it different from Pilates?
GYROTONIC® is a movement method created by Juliu Horvath that uses specialized equipment with weighted pulleys and rotating handles to guide the body through three-dimensional, spiraling movements. Pilates works primarily in linear planes — forward/back, side to side. GYROTONIC® moves through arcs, circles, and undulations, which more closely replicates how the spine and joints actually move. The two methods complement each other: Pilates builds core stability and linear control, GYROTONIC® restores rotational mobility and joint freedom.
Do I need to be flexible to do GYROTONIC®?
No. GYROTONIC® is often sought out precisely because flexibility and range of motion are limited. The method works progressively — the weighted pulleys support your movement, and the sequences are designed to open the body gradually. Many clients begin with significant stiffness and see meaningful mobility gains over 4–8 sessions. Flexibility is a result of GYROTONIC®, not a prerequisite.
Is GYROTONIC® good for back pain?
Yes, particularly for chronic back pain involving spinal stiffness, disc issues, or postural compression. GYROTONIC® moves the spine through its full natural range — flexion, extension, lateral bending, and rotation — in fluid, supported sequences. This decompresses the spine, restores circulation to spinal discs, and reactivates the deep stabilizing muscles often inhibited by chronic pain. Many clients with longstanding back issues that have not responded to other methods find GYROTONIC® to be a significant turning point.
What does a GYROTONIC® session feel like?
Unlike most exercise equipment, the GYROTONIC® Pulley Tower creates resistance and support simultaneously — the weighted pulleys guide your movement and create gentle traction. Sessions feel fluid and three-dimensional; most clients describe a sense of openness and decompression, particularly in the spine and hips. There is no grinding, no end-range forcing. The movements are rhythmic and breath-driven, which gives the practice a meditative quality that purely mechanical training lacks.
How many sessions does it take to see results?
Most clients notice improved range of motion and reduced stiffness within the first 2–3 sessions. Meaningful postural and movement changes typically develop over 6–10 sessions. Because GYROTONIC® builds on itself — each session progresses from the last — the results compound over time. Your instructor will design a progressive program based on your starting point and goals.
