4 Things to Look for in a Massage Therapist

Finding a massage therapist can be an intimidating experience, but knowing what to look for prevents this negative feeling from creeping up on you. Here are four things you should keep in mind when searching a sports massage or massage therapy specialist that is right for you.

1. Personality

Before scheduling your appointment, talk to the potential massage therapist first. Is the person kind and sensitive? Or is it someone who emits grumpiness, rudeness or disinterest? These are important aspects to discover prior to your appointment.

2. Cleanliness

A massage therapist works in different atmospheres, such as a spa, home or fitness center. These are some of the most bacteria infested places. So you need to make sure your specialist keeps his/her hands, massage table and area clean. Your health is important and you do not want to put it further at risk.

3. Training and Education

Start by asking if your massage therapist is licensed. Find out what school he/she graduated from. How long have they been practicing? Is the license up to date? Can you speak to some of his/her recent clients? All of these factors are essential in finding an experienced, trained, knowledgeable massage therapist. Your health is in this person’s hands, so do not feel intrusive when asking these questions.

4. Location

Talk about where you would like to receive treatment. Where is the most convenient location for the both of you? Once you decide, check out the location to make sure it is somewhere comfortable. It is where you wish to find pain relief so be sure it is a soothing atmosphere.
