We’ve been working with runners and running injuries since our very first day in business. Running is one of the most common outdoor physical activities in America, and in Houston, one that can be done year round.
We’ve worked with every type of runner, from occasional 5Kers to medal winning Olympians. And while the level of intensity during training varies dramatically between them, the injuries are often the same.
Simply put, it doesn’t matter if you’re driving a Porsche or a Pinto, if your gas pedal is to the floor, you’re asking for 100% power. We find it’s quite similar with runners. If you’re training consistently and at a challenging level of intensity, overuse injuries are likely going to occur.
The shock that is absorbed from repetitive foot strikes can cause so many potential muscle and joint issues throughout the body, that the further and more often you run, the greater the chances of injury. The good news is that regular stretching and therapeutic massage may help to prevent them, but they’re likely inevitable at some point, so the sooner you address them, the better.
Common running injuries
Although we’ve treated many more conditions, the most common running injuries we notice are:
- Plantar Fasciitis
- IT Band Syndrome
- Hip and knee Bursitis
- Patellofemoral Syndrome
- Low Back pain (often due to over absorption of shock)
- Achilles Tendinitis and Calf strains and sprains
- Patellar Tendinitis and Tendinosis
- Hamstring and Quadriceps Tendinitis and Tendinosis
- Ankle and other foot sprains
We try to treat your running injuries in a way that allows you to keep training as often as you can, while still making gains towards healing your injury. If you’re suffering from chronic or acute running or Marathon injuries, don’t wait any longer, call us today and we’ll help keep you going.
